Springhill Community House would like to thank Vincent Kinnaird for his labour of love film Fr Des – The Way He Saw It which was screened on NVTV this evening.
Vincent is a local film maker/producer from West Belfast, his father Seamus was originally from Ballymurphy and I’m sure crossed paths with Des somewhere in Glenalina.
He has been making films since his late teens.
His early work included dramas with the BBC, C4 and renowned film maker Ken Loach.
After that he started making his own short films and had success with films enter into in Cannes and Los Angeles film festivals
Since then he focused on Documentaries with subjects that he knows and was passionate about including A Summer on Rathlin and The Burning of Bombay Street.
He first met Des with Harold Good in 2010 and shortly after began recording interviews with Des over a ten- year period culminating in his best work yet “Fr Des – The Way he saw it”.
In the film Des reflects on the key events in his life and the situation he found himself in moving into one of the most deprived area in Europe.
It was a very emotional watching it again but the film captures the true essence of Des, his work and legacy.
Thanks to Vincent for documenting Des’ life it is a beautiful tribute to an extraordinary man.
The film will be repeated on NVTV in the coming days so you’ll get an opportunity to watch it again if you missed it.
