We recently shared photographs from the Lelia Doolan Collection which included images of Bobby Sands.
They are part of a collection of photographs donated to the archive by Lelia Doolan, a keen photographer who chronicled life in Ballymurphy between 1974-77, while studying for a PhD in anthropology at Queens University , titled “Elements of Love and Friendship in some Belfast Housing Estates”.
Her collection has 100+ sets of negatives documenting community life across Belfast including Ballymurphy, Springhill, Ballymacarrett, Short Strand and Sandy Row. Her amazing collection of photographs document activities in those area’s including children playing, first communion, confirmation, baptisms, funerals and community events.
Todays dip into the archive images are of children at play in Springhill and views of the Springhill community.
We’d love to know if you spot yourself or know anyone in them.
In the coming weeks we’ll share more from this amazing collection.
